Variable Frequency Drives

Controlling the speed of an AC electric motor is possible through a variable frequency drive (VFD), also referred to as adjustable frequency drives and variable speed drives, are used widely. They find their use in several different aspects, particularly in commercial buildings for ventilation systems, elevators, pumps, and conveyors. VFDs are also used on machine tool drives in some cases. By controlling the current that is going into the motor, it allows you to adjust the speed of the motor. This is only one of the types of devices that are able to do this, but it is considered the preferred device in many cases.
