High-Voltage Cable Testing
Maximizes the Dependability of Motors,
Generators, and Transformers
It is necessary to routinely test your cables and other electrical equipment, such as capacitors to determine if there are any problems that are occurring. When problems occur, it can cause damage over the course of time that may cause your cables to fail. This may occur for a number of different reasons, including defects in the installation. Low voltage testing is able to determine if you have a dead short in the wires, but if the wires are not physically touching, high voltage cable testing may be necessary to determine if problems exist.
One of the primary reasons why you would need high voltage cable testing is if there were a problem with the installation or if there was a mis-wire. In the case of damaged insulation, either occuring during installation of the cable or because of other problems that could take place, the voltage could leak slowly from the cable and cause the damage to occur over time. This voltage leak may be small enough that it will be undetectable when the lower voltage is passing through the wires. As the voltage is increased, however, the amount of leakage is going to increase, just as water would increase leaking from a garden hose as the pressure inside of the hose was increased.
One concern that takes place during high voltage cable testing is that you do not want to damage the cables in the process. Our Power Services Team is able to detect any problems in the system without causing any damage because of the additional voltage that is used. We are also sure to employ professionals that understand how to run these tests accurately and professionally.
Some of the specifics that are offered through our high voltage cable testing system include a maximum voltage of 44 kVrms, one cycle every 10 seconds, either manual or fully automatic, cable test sequences, the ability to test up to 30,000 feet of cable and of course, compliance with any international guides or standards that are currently available.
When good wire insulation is available, it guarantees that you have quality cable. The reduction in any leakage of voltage also reduces the possibility that damage would occur. Regardless of whether you are trying to find problems that occurred with the insulation during installation, any nicked wires that occurred during installation or during manufacturing or if you are trying to find leakage points, either because of damaged insulation or because of corrosion at the contact points, high voltage cable testing is able to determine those problems for you accurately. We can then establish what is necessary to fix the problem so that issues do not occur in the future.
Our Power Services Team possesses the most advanced high-voltage cable test system available. This system is suitable for testing cables, capacitors, and electrical equipment, enabling our Power Services technicians to detect insulation defects before cables fail while in service.
Using this testing system, our technicians are capable of finding weak cables via the variable frequency VLF output. This test set allows users to select dual-polarity DC and cable jacket or sheath testing output modes. Our high-voltage measuring system allows us to thoroughly test and evaluate cables.
