A Switchgear is used in electrical power systems providing a method of disconnect so repairs can be made or clear any faults that may be taking place within the electrical system. Once the repair has taken place, the switchgear is then used in order to turn the power back on. This method has been used for well over 100 years, although the technology and the methods that were used for the switchgear have certainly changed during that time.
The purpose of switchgear is not only to provide a way to turn off the power so that maintenance can be done; it also is a way of isolating circuits from power supplies. Additionally, switchgear can be an enhancement system used when multiple feeds are necessary to provide additional electricity in one particular area. Primarily, however, it is used as a type of protection so that a short circuit can occur if necessary without interrupting the entire electrical system in the area.
One thing that is interesting is the fact that, although many people equate switchgears with high-voltage electrical systems, they are also available for low-voltage systems as well. Even a simple circuit breaker panel found in your home is similar to a switchgear system found in very large power stations. There are fundamental differences, of course, but the basic principle is the same. It allows electricity to flow to several different areas and provides a means for a short circuit to occur, cutting off electricity to part of the downstream while not allowing the rest of the flow of electricity to be interrupted.
Repairing switchgear is something that L&S Electric specializes in; covering all major manufacturers' switchgears, from low-voltage to high-voltage. Some of the specific items that are available for switchgear include retrofitting as well as repairing or upgrading any existing equipment that you may have. We also provide cleaning, testing, and switchgear inspections and if necessary, we can either take care of the service of the switchgear on location or if necessary, it can be done in shop.
We also understand that when switchgear problems occur, it is necessary to get them fixed as quickly as possible. We will they handle this for you and if you are working within a scheduled maintenance shutdown, we can also provide fast service so that your workflow is not interrupted.
